The story was interesting ... the directing was artsy but good ... Mos Def was great ("Anytime you wanna play cowboy...") ... as were the characters who played Billy Bob's father and Billy Bob's son ... even the new actor who played Halle & P.Diddy's son did an incredible job ... Halle's best acting is done when she comes out onto the porch with Billy Bob in the last minute of the film ... but, most importantly - Black folk KNOW that the only reason that the Powers That Be gave her that award over all of those other equally talented female actors was because - in the film - she had the hell f__ked out of her by a white man - who happened to be the worse kind of racist a few days prior in the storyline. If she'd only had sex with a black man in the film - then she would've NEVER (ask any Black person - who's willing to be honest with you) got any award from the Oscars. Both her and Denzel's winning of those awards was the Oscars way of adding insult (giving awards for playing racial stereotypical characters) to injury (not giving any Best Actor oscars to any Black person for over thirty years). As interesting as the story is - the white-racist-male-dominating-submissive-horny-black-female sex scene is what got her that award (even if she is too 'mixed up' to see it herself). Denzel realized it as soon as he accepted his award ("...Two birds with one night ..." - interesting coincidence that there was a bird metaphor used during Halle's rough-sex scene too). Halle's just happy that she made history and will always be credited as a Black 'first'. [ White pawn takes Black Queen. How blind we are ...]
